ENTHUSIASM!

John Dryden said, "we first make our habits, and then our habits
make us."
This concept is illustrated by the following story.
There were two students each with the same amount of natural talent and
intelligence. Each came from the same socio-economic background. The two
students were as similar as two people could possibly be in every way.
However, one student was the valedictorian of the class and the other
student barely passed. So what was the difference between the two
students? Well obviously one student chose to live under positive habits
of discipline, dedication and commitment
while the other student chose to live under the negative habits of
procrastination, laziness and a non-caring attitude. This is a simple
story of applying yourself and does not have any documentation
to support its outcome, right?
Well, interestingly enough, a survey came out in the early 90's which
asked one hundred American and one hundred Japanese mothers to what they
felt academic achievement was attributed.
All one hundred American mothers said that it was the result of
intelligence and natural ability. All one hundred Japanese mothers said
that academic achievement was due to effort and discipline.
This certainly makes you think about how North American society can
condition your mind. In the United States there is extraordinary
opportunity to succeed in whatever field you choose. However it is
important to BELIEVE you can succeed before you can actually accomplish
anything.
We cannot be too afraid to believe in our own talents and use what we
have been given to accomplish our goals both personally and
professionally. It is our right. Personal achievement is our choice.
What are your habits making you into?
LAUGH-A-DAY
Tell a man that there are 400 billion stars
and he'll believe you. Tell him a bench has
wet paint and he has to touch it.
Do Roman paramedics refer to "IV's" as
"4's"?
How come Superman could stop bullets
with his chest but always ducked when
someone threw a gun at him?
QUOTE-OF-THE-DAY
"Class is an aura of confidence that is being sure
without being cocky. Class has nothing to do with money. Class never
runs scared. It is self-discipline and self-knowledge. It's the sure
footedness that comes with having proved you can meet life."
- Ann Landers
