Motivational Minute
April 3, 2000
Hello
Friends!
Here is a message of POWER and PASSION to get your week started with
ENTHUSIASM!
Please feel free to share it with your friends and associates.
What makes you really high?
No I am NOT talking
about drugs! I mean, what makes you really high on life? What jazzes you
up to the point where you just feel GREAT about everything! Stop reading
and take at least 60 seconds to ponder that question.
Since we are all
different and encounter unique experiences on a daily basis, what makes
you incredibly excited about life might be totally different than your
friends or associates - and that's perfectly OK! The point here is that
we should all get into the habit of recognizing those things in our lives
that make us happy and content, instead of always giving so much
attention to the things that upset or aggravate us.
Learn to put the best
things about life in your "memory banks" to remember and
relish when you are experiencing the challenges of daily living. Instead
of thinking about all the meetings, deadlines, crushing responsibilities
and things that went wrong in your day, tap your positive memory banks.
If you are a parent,
think about the incredible feeling of joy you have when you see your
children do well. Learn to remember the funny experiences and laughter
you shared with friends or how awesome you felt after one of your best
workouts. Think about how soothing that hot bath felt or when you got
the chance to work on your crafts or just fish in solitude. Remember the
time you played the best round of golf in your life or the feeling of
exhilaration when you closed that huge account or got your first big
promotion.
YOU know what makes
you happy. Learn to remember and think about your BEST life experiences
more often. This helps to counteract the feelings of sadness,
frustration or anger you might have about
certain situations in your life. Of course you have to attend to all the
important personal and professional responsibilities in your life. Just
remember that it IS possible to be happy and content MOST of the time.
If you allow the
pressures of life to cave in on you, it is easy to start living without
joy or purpose - just going through the motions. This week I read about
a most amazing creature; it is called the cryptobiotic tardigrade. This
odd animal can exist for more than 100 years in a deathlike state,
totally withdrawn in its spiny shell without any water, oxygen or heat.
Then after it encounters moisture, it comes back to life again and pokes
its head out of its shell that had been its coffin for so long.
When you don't
practice the positive habit of thinking about and remembering GOOD
things, the negativity of everyday living can cause you to hibernate
from life like the tardigrade - existing but not really LIVING. Give
yourself the life giving moisture of positive memories, perspectives,
laughter and fun to provide your life with renewed purpose on a daily
basis. Laugh hard and live well!
LAUGH-A-DAY
Here are some
sentences taken from ACTUAL letters received by the Welfare Department
in applications for support:
"I
cannot get sick pay. I have six children. Can you tell me why?"
"In
accordance with your instructions, I have given birth to twins in the
enclosed envelope."
"This is
my eighth child. What are you going to do about it?"
"I am glad
to report that my husband who is missing is dead."
QUOTE-Of-THE-DAY
"Doubt and
fear must meet faith and courage."
- Willie Jolley
