Classic Motivational Moment...
One of Creation's Greatest Miracles...YOU! |
"In all the history of the world there was never anyone else
exactly like you, and in all the infinity to come there will never be
another you."
Part of the challenge facing society is that there are still many people
who are unsatisfied with themselves deep down inside. Many people tend
to feel inadequate for something they did in their lives that was wrong
or for something they never did and felt they should have done.
First of all, as the old saying goes, you cannot blame yourself for past
errors; you are no longer the same person who made them and you cannot
blame a person who does not exist. The same concept applies for the
guilt of not doing something you feel you should have done.
This is the error of omission instead of the error of commission but
that does not change the idea of allowing that past part of you to rest.
Too many people allow the ogre of the past to keep terrorizing their
lives with feelings of anger, resentment, guilt and ashamedness. These
same people think they must continually punish themselves
because they feel that they deserve torment for decisions that were made
by someone with less wisdom.
Stop beating yourself up for the past. No matter how painful it was or
how poor of a decision you made, if you do not let go of it your life
will be in the
bondage of unnecessary emotional baggage. Everyone has made mistakes,
some more severe than others, but learn from the mistakes and move on.
However, it is important that you do not casually shrug off your
indiscretions as meaningless. Realize what was not right so you can
correct it in the future along with helping others to avoid
the same mistakes.
Another part of being able to accept yourself for who you are is the
ability to accept others just as they are, along with their mistakes and
imperfections. In the words of G.G. Jampolsky, "Peace of mind comes
from not wanting to change others, but by simply accepting them as they
are. True acceptance
is always without demands and expectations." You already have
plenty of personal challenges for yourself.
It is not necessary to take on the weight of another person's emotional
burdens as well. With close friends and loved ones though, some times it
becomes difficult to deal with because a decision they might
have made in the past indirectly affects you. This is when you have to
exhibit true strength of character since dwelling on another person's
wrong doings creates havoc in your own life.
Concentrate on accepting yourself for the choices you have made in your
life and the choices someone else has made, no matter how wrong or how
right, will not be such an issue for you.
Since only God has a right to judge a person's character, we have no
business putting a label on someone even if we know every detail of
their past. One of Abraham Lincoln's favorite Bible quotations was,
"Judge not that ye be not judged." Have an
extraordinary week filled with love and laughter!
